Break and Enter

November 13, 2009

Shortly before 7:00 p.m. the victim came home to find an Owen Sound teen standing in her third-floor apartment.  She knew the male and removed him from her apartment but not before he had stolen an X-box and several games and passed them off to two accomplices.  She and a friend attempted to make an arrangement for the return of some of the property however only the console had been returned.

The Owen Sound Police were not called at the time of the break-in or the recovery of the console.  Once police were contacted and attended the scene, the 18-year-old Owen Sound male was located in the apartment complex and arrested.

The police investigation revealed the accused and a male accomplice entered the apartment and handed out the property to a third male who stayed at the back of the apartment building.  The victim and her friend were then told they could have the games back but not until a cash fee was paid to the thieves.

The 18-year-old accused was remanded into custody this morning to answer to one count of Break, Enter & Theft Under $5,000; one count of Breach of Recognizance; and two counts of Failing to Comply with a Probation Order.  The probation order stems from a conviction under the JCJA so police cannot release the teen’s name.

Further investigation has reveled the two accomplices are a 16-year-old and 17-year-old Owen Sound males and warrants for their arrest have been sought from the courts.  Police are encouraging the teens to turn themselves in to police.
