Man Arrested for Theft at Retail Store

An attentive loss prevention officer caught a local thief in the act.

At approximately 3:15 p.m. yesterday afternoon a loss prevention officer at a large retail store off 16th Street East in Owen Sound observed a male attend the electronics department in the store.  Once there the male selected several items from a display shelf, cut open the packaging with a small pocket knife, and concealed the items in his jacket.

The male went to a cashier and paid for some other clothing merchandise but failed to pay for the concealed items.  The loss prevention officer immediately contacted the Owen Sound Police who attended and arrested the 35-year-old Owen Sound male as he exited the store.

When he was searched subsequent to his arrest, not only did the police find the stolen items, valued at approximately $110, they also found he had over $600 in cash in his pockets.

The male was charged with one count each of Theft Under $5,000, Possession of Stolen Property, and Breach of Probation.  He was released on a Promise to Appear and an Officer-in-Charge Undertaking and is to appear in Owen Sound Court on the 28th of January 2010.
