Police Ask for Assistance in Vehicle Theft

December 30, 2009

Owen Sound Police are looking for assistance in identifying two young males who were caught entering an unlocked vehicle in the city’s north-east section last night.

Inspector Stephen MacKinnon stated, “Shortly after midnight this morning, a man looked out of his residence, saw his car door open and went to investigate.  He startled two young males who were inside his vehicle and as they attempted to flee the owner was able to grab one and restrain him.  It was then the young thief’s accomplice came up behind the owner and struck him in the head.  The assault knocked the owner to the ground and the thieves fled the area, dropping items from the car as they ran.  Thankfully the owner was not seriously hurt and did not require medical attention.”

Officers checked the area but were unable to locate the males believed to be in their late teens or very early twenties.  One was further described as being short and stalky, with short dark hair.  He was wearing a black winter coat and blue jeans.

Police are reminding citizens to be cautious in these types of situations and to call them immediately should they see something suspicious as investigating these situations on your own can result in assaults.

Anyone with information is asked to contact to Owen Sound Police Service at 519-376-1234 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
