R.I.D.E. Statistics for December/Holidays

January 4, 2010

The Owen Sound Police Service release their R.I.D.E. statistics for December and the holiday season.

Officers spent 41 hours last month stopping 4866 motor vehicles to check the sobriety of the drivers.  A total of five roadside tests were administered during that time which resulted in one Southampton area male driver being charged with impaired driving and driving with over 80 mgs of alcohol in 100 ml of blood.  Open alcohol was seized from the motor vehicle, and his driving privileges were suspended.

While checking for impaired drivers, officers also checked to ensure drivers had the proper licence and paperwork, and that the motor vehicles’ equipment was in proper working order.  A total of 37 Highway Traffic Act offences were observed mostly for expired validation stickers and burnt out headlights.
