Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design Course

January 27, 2010

Commonly known as CPTED, a pro-active crime prevention strategy used by planners, architects, police services, retailers, and others.

CPTED adopts the principle that proper design and effective use of the built environment
can lead to a reduction in the incidence and fear of crime and improve the quality of life.

Emphasis is placed on the physical environment, productive use of space, and
behaviour of people to create environments that are absent of environmental cues that cause opportunities for crime to occur.

This introductory level CPTED course will provide the learner with an in-depth introduction into CPTED theory, principles and strategies. It will also present the participant with a number of practical exercises to put theory into practice.
