Several Arrests Yesterday

February 23, 2010

A Flesherton area male faces several charges after being stopped by an Owen Sound Police Service officer yesterday.

The uniformed officer on general patrol was surprised by the candour of the 45-year-old driver when he was pulled over.  The male admitted to the officer he had no driver’s licence because it was under suspension, he had no insurance, and he was in possession of a small quantity of marihuana.

Further investigation revealed the licence plates were not authorized for the vehicle which had been bought and sold several times before the man bought it.  Once he bought the vehicle he never applied to the Ministry of Transportation for a permit.

The male was released on a Promise to Appear and an Officer-in-Charge Undertaking for one count of Possession of a Controlled Substance, and seven Highway Traffic Act related offences including Driving Under Suspension.  One of the conditions of the Undertaking is that he not occupy the driver’s seat of a motor vehicle.

He is to appear in court in Owen Sound on the 25th of March 2010 to answer the charges.

A 52-year-old Toronto area woman was finally arrested and brought back to Owen Sound yesterday to face criminal charges stemming from an incident in 2004.

The female had been charged by Owen Sound Police Service Detectives in relation to her part in assisting with the abduction that occurred on the 21st of July of 2004 in Owen Sound.  The woman was arrested two days later in Toronto along with the other party involved.  The infant who had been the centre of a custody matter was located unharmed in Toronto.

The female was returned to Owen Sound and later released on bail.  She made numerous appearances in court between the 26th of July 2004 and the 21st of December 2005 when her matter was adjourned to the 16th of January 2006.  On that date she failed to appear in court and a Bench Warrant for her arrest was issued.  The additional charge of Failing to Re-Attend Court was laid that date.

A 56-year-old Owen Sound woman was arrested last night and charged with two counts of Failing to Comply with her probation order.

The female had been placed on probation after pleading guilty in 2008 to aggravated assault on her common-law spouse.  One of the conditions placed restrictions on her communications with her ex-common law.  She was found to be in the male’s company which was a breach of the communications condition.

She was held for a bail hearing to appear in Court in Owen Sound this morning.
