A 44-year-old Owen Sound male found himself back in front of the Courts after refusing to leave a residence on the city’s east side.

In May of 2009, William Worthy Young was arrested outside his residence after Owen Sound Police officers responded to a noise complaint.  At that time Young, who was in a drunken state, pushed one officer and threatened two others.  He was eventually arrested and later released on a Promise to Appear and an Officer-in-Charge Undertaking with certain conditions, one of which was to abstain from the consumption of alcohol.

At approximately 9:30 pm on Saturday night, Owen Sound Police officers were called to an eastside residence to remove an unwanted person.  Officers arrived to find Young in a very intoxicated state due to the consumption of alcohol.  This time he was arrested without incident for failing to comply with his previous Undertaking.  When he was searched subsequent to the arrest, officers found a baggie in his pocket containing what is believed to be a small quantity of marihuana.

He was remanded into custody and appeared this morning in the Owen Sound Courthouse to answer to one count of Breach of OIC Undertaking and one count of Possession of a Controlled Substance.

In unrelated incidents, two members of the Canadian Military taking training at Meaford were arrested and charged for being intoxicated in a public place while here in Owen Sound.

Just before 4:00 am on Sunday morning, an Owen Sound Police Service officer was flagged down by a concerned taxi driver advising there was a male standing in the roadway on 6th Street East at 8th Avenue East swinging what appeared to be a bat at passing motor vehicles.

An officer responded to the area and found a 22-year-old Sudbury area male walking westbound on the boulevard in the 700 block of 6th Street East, carrying a two-foot long stake.  The male was ordered to drop the stake and complied with the demand and was handcuffed.  An investigation revealed the male, who was in an intoxicated state had been to one of the local bars earlier in the evening and was mad, although it is not known why.  Fortunately he did not strike any motor vehicles although he did make some attempts.

The male was arrested for his own safety and released later in the morning when he was in a sober state, charged with a Liquor Licence Act offence.

Approximately a half-hour later, another police officer was eastbound in the 200 block of 10th Street East, responding to a call for service when a drunken male walked out in front of the marked cruiser, staggered across the roadway, tripped over the curb and fell to the ground.  The male picked himself up off the ground and continued to stagger northbound into the 1000 block of 3rd Avenue East.

The officer recognized the male as the same person he had helped into a cab about 45 minutes prior to this encounter.  At that time the male was drunk and was placed in a cab that he said was going to take him back to the military base in Meaford.  He obviously never made it.

The 20-year-old Halifax area male refused to stop for the police officer, instead choosing to continue to walk out into the roadway.  He was arrested for his own safety and released later in the morning when he was in a sober state, charged with a Liquor Licence Act offence.

An Owen Sound female who had been taken by a relative to the hospital because of injuries caused by her boyfriend earlier on Saturday evening also told Owen Sound Police officers that two weeks prior her boyfriend had sexually assaulted her and held a knife to her throat.

The 24-year-old victim told police how her 31-year-old boyfriend became upset on Saturday night resulting in her arm being slammed in a cupboard.  He then head-butted her in the face and smashed the cell phone she had in her possession, and threatened he would crush her head in if she tried to leave although he kept telling her to leave.  Every time she tried to walk out he would pull her back into the apartment.  She was eventually able to get away from him.  The victim received a swollen nose and a small cut to the bridge of her nose as well as a swollen right eye and left wrist.

Two weeks earlier the boyfriend sexually assaulted the victim, threatened her with a knife, and choking her.  She was too frightened to report the incident to police at the time.

The male, who had been drinking on both occasions, was arrested on Sunday morning without incident and held in custody.  He appeared in the Owen Sound Courthouse this morning charged with a total of eleven Criminal Code offences -- Sexual Assault with a Weapon; two counts of Uttering Death Threats; Choking; Forcible Confinement; Assault; Mischief Under $5,000; and four counts of Breach of Probation.

Owen Sound Police are looking for a 38-year-old Owen Sound female after she left messages on the answering machine of a person she is not to communicate with.

The accused female had been arrested on the 27th of February after she threw a large rock through a window of a townhouse unit on the city’s east side.  She was released on a Promise to Appear and an Officer-in-charge Undertaking with certain conditions, one of which was not to communicate with the owner of the unit.

On Sunday evening the victim advised the Owen Sound Police that the female had left numerous messages on her answering machine since the beginning of March.  Attempts to locate the female have been unsuccessful so an arrest warrant will be sought.

Three Owen Sound Police officers were injured early this morning after responding to an east side address to arrest a male for breaching a probation order made after a conviction for a domestic violence related incident back in October of 2009.

At approximately 11:30 pm on Saturday evening a female attended the Owen Sound Police Service asking for assistance in getting her ex-boyfriend out of her townhouse unit.  The 36-year-old male had refused to leave and the female was afraid he would start to damage her property.  Her fears were realized when at the police station she received text messages from the male advising he was smashing her belongings.

At approximately 12:30 am officers arrived at the townhouse unit and gained entry.  The male was on the second floor landing of the stairway, swearing at and taunting the police to come and get him.  As an officer peered around the corner he was struck in the head with a glass bottle causing three lacerations to the top of his head and the immediate loss of blood.

Another officer, coming to the assistance of the first, was confronted by the male who swung a hammer at the head of the second officer before fleeing upstairs and out a bedroom window out onto a small roof.  The male then jumped down onto a fence at the rear patio area of the unit and ran at the first officer who had now made his way out into the backyard, still trying to arrest the male.

During the struggle to control the male, the second officer injured his right hand and a third officer on scene twisted his knee in the muddy backyard lawn.

The officer with the lacerations to his head was taken to the hospital where it took five staples to close one laceration and three staples to close a second laceration.  The third and smallest laceration did not require stapling.  The second and third officers attended the hospital where they received medical attention for their injuries.  All thee officers were treated and released but will be off their normal duties for at least one week due to their injuries.

The male was also taken to the hospital where he received medical attention for a small abrasion to his forehead.  He was returned to the station and was taken to the Owen Sound Courthouse this morning to answer to a total of sixteen Criminal Code offences – Aggravated Assault; two counts of Assault with a Weapon; two counts of Assault a Peace Officer; three counts of Assault with Intent to Resist Arrest; two counts of Assault; two counts of Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose; Mischief Under $5,000; and three counts of Breaching a Probation Order.
