NewsLocal Police and Ministry of Transportation Team Up for Vehicle Safety InitiativeMay 13, 2010 As part of a Police Week initiative, the Owen Sound Police Service, the Ontario Provincial Police and the Ministry of Transportation Enforcement Branch teamed up to conduct a vehicle safety inspection blitz in Owen Sound today. The safety blitz focused on commercial vehicles but it also included passenger vehicles. Four members of the Owen Sound Police Service, four members of the Ministry of Transportation Enforcement Branch and one member of the North Grey O.P.P. participated in the enforcement initiative. A total of twenty-three vehicles were inspected at the Ministry of Transportation facility on 7th Avenue East, near the Coliseum. The inspections were conducted by members of the Ministry of Transportation Enforcement Branch. Of the vehicles inspected, three had the licence plates immediately removed for serious safety defects. Ten other vehicles were taken out of service for less-serious safety defects. Many of the defects were related to the braking systems, steering and suspension. In addition, several Highway Traffic Act charges were laid for various vehicle equipment and other violations. Inspector Wurfel states, “These safety inspections are conducted to make our roads safer for everyone. Many of the violations identified today were in relation to essential operating elements of those vehicles, such as brakes and steering. We have conducted these safety inspection initiatives in the past and the results continue to be concerning. Our efforts in relation to vehicle safety will continue”. << Previous Page |
