NewsFatal Motor Vehicle Collision (Updated)May 17, 2010 On Monday, May 17th 2010 at 5:30 p.m. a single motor vehicle collision occurred along 10th Street East near 4th Avenue East, Owen Sound. A 75-year old Thornbury resident occupying the front passenger seat of a red 1998 pick-up truck was extricated from the vehicle. She was transported by ambulance with vital signs absent, and succumbed to her injuries a short time later. The vehicle driver, the victim’s 77-year old husband, remains in hospital at the time of this news release. His injuries are not believed to be life threatening, with a chance that he may be released from care this evening. The pick-up truck, which was travelling westbound along 10th Street East, mounted the north curb, damaging approximately 50 metres of chain link fence. The vehicle came to rest after colliding with a large tree located on a church lot. Both vehicle occupants were wearing their seatbelts. Alcohol is not a factor. 10th Street was closed for 3 ¼ hours between 4th Avenue East and 5th Avenue East as police investigated. The event remains under investigation as police continue to interview several witnesses. Update:City police are continuing their investigation into Monday afternoon’s traffic fatality on 10th Street East. The vehicle driver, John KIGHT of Thornbury, is recovering in hospital from non-life threatening injuries. His wife, Peggy KIGHT, died from injuries sustained in the collision. The couple’s 16-year old dog, which was also in the vehicle, appears to have escaped injury. << Previous Page |
