NewsLocal Police Services Team Up to Increase Traffic SafetyMay 18, 2010 The Owen Sound Police Service will be teaming up with local police agencies during the coming months, to participate in cooperative traffic initiatives, in an effort to increase traffic safety in Grey and Bruce Counties. Current participating Police Services include the Owen Sound Police Service, West Grey Police Service, Saugeen Shores Police Service, Hanover Police Service, and the Grey County and South Bruce O.P.P. detachments. Summer and fall cottage and recreational traffic, along with scheduled special events increase the amount of traffic in and around communities in Grey and Bruce Counties. This often leads to increases in motor vehicle collisions on our roadways and the resulting injuries and deaths. In an attempt to increase road safety and reduce injuries and deaths, participating police services will be working together to execute a series of traffic enforcement initiatives in Grey and Bruce Counties. Enforcement initiatives will include R.I.D.E. checks, speeding, aggressive driving, seatbelt violations with concentration in known trouble spots and high traffic areas. Motorists and citizens will see police officers from these police services, working in their communities, conducting various enforcement and education focused traffic safety initiatives. The strategy will maximize and pool area police resources for a more effective and integrated approach to traffic safety. |
