Busy Weekend Results in Several Arrests

City police were kept busy responding to a variety of events so far this weekend. 


On Saturday, June 5th police were dispatched to the Metro grocery store regarding a shoplifting complaint. The theft, which occurred at approximately 2:30 p.m., was witnessed by a customer who alerted staff, but left without providing any contact information. Police are appealing to that customer to contact them regarding this investigation. Any other persons who have information regarding this theft are also encouraged to contact Cst. Robson at 519-376-1234 ext. 152. 


Shortly after 6:00 p.m. on June 5th police were flagged down by a pedestrian who was concerned for the well-being of an apparently drunken teenager in the 300 block of 4th Avenue West. Police located the 17-year old female staggering along a sidewalk and determined that she was intoxicated from the over-consumption of alcohol. Deemed a risk to her own safety, she was arrested and transported to the police station. She responded by kicking, biting and clawing at officers. Injuries to officers are minor.

The Massie-area resident is charged with being intoxicated in a public place, being a person under 19 years consuming liquor, and 3 counts of assault police. She was released into a family member’s custody once sober.


At 6:40 p.m. June 5th police were dispatched to the 200 block of 10th Street East after a citizen complained of a cyclist in apparent distress, repeatedly falling to his knees beside his bicycle.

Police arrived and determined that the 41-year old male was extremely intoxicated. He was arrested for being intoxicated in a public place and returned to the police station to sober up. While at the police station he was found to be in possession of a small amount of suspected cannabis marihuana.

The Georgian Bluffs resident was later released from custody, and is required to attend Ontario Court of Justice on June 24th, 2010.


At approximately 7:40 p.m. June 5th a 33-year old Owen Sound male turned himself in to police custody regarding a domestic dispute which occurred the night before at his Owen Sound residence.

The man and his girlfriend, who had spent the evening of Friday, June 4th imbibing with friends, became involved in an argument which got out of control. After some pushing and shoving the man is alleged to have pushed his partner to the ground, straddled her, and dragged her along the floor. Minor injuries were sustained; however, medical attention was not required.

The man was held for a bail hearing and was subsequently released. He is required to attend Ontario Court of Justice, Owen Sound on June 17th, 2010.


On Sunday, June 6th at approximately 3:00 a.m. police responded to an out of control birthday party in the 700 block of 24th Street West. The party, which was announced on a popular social networking website, attracted several uninvited guests. Several party-goers became involved in undesirable activities, which included excessive noise and drunkenness, fighting, setting off of fireworks, and trespassing through nearby yards.

One male, who was observed by police throwing beer bottles at the house, fled and was chased by police through several back yards. He was taken into custody and found in possession of stolen property belonging to the homeowner. The 21-year old Owen Sound man was also in contravention of conditions of his probation. He is charged with 3 counts of breach of probation, and 1 count each of theft under $5000, possession of stolen property, and being intoxicated in a public place. His court date is June 15th, 2010.
