NewsLarge Drug Bust Monday MorningJune 29, 2010 ![]() Officers from the Owen Sound Police Service Drug Unit, Criminal Investigation Branch, HEAT Unit and CORE Unit took a large quantity of drugs off the streets after executing a search warrant at a house on the city’s west side yesterday morning. Owen Sound Police Service Operations Inspector Stephen MacKinnon stated, “A significant amount of illegal drugs, as well as a large amount of cash, was seized yesterday morning when officers executed a Controlled Drugs and Substances Act search warrant at a house on the city’s west side yesterday morning.” The house, situate at 300 13th Street West, is occupied by four young females who were all arrested and held for bail hearings this morning. Also seized was $19,500 in cash, digital scales, drug packaging material, and debt lists. “While we have seized magic mushrooms in search warrants over the years, I do not recall ever seeing them in such quantity from one location. Someone will be looking for their cash and it will not be coming,” said MacKinnon. Charged with one count each of Possession of Marihuana for the Purpose of Trafficking and Possession of Psilocybin for the Purpose of Trafficking are 24-year-old Briana Clark, 24-year-old Kaylee Willetts, 23-year-old Shayla Gamble, and 22-year-old Nicole Ortiz. In addition, Clark is charged with one count of Possession of Proceeds of Crime; Gamble is charged with one count of Breach of Probation; and Ortiz faces one count of Mischief Under $5,000 for damage she caused to a holding cell at the police station. Although Police are encouraged by the bust and keeping drugs off the streets, they realize there is always more to do. The investigation into the source of the drugs is continuing. |
