City Police Advise Area Travellers To Plan Ahead

July 2, 2010

The Owen Sound Police Service is urging residents and those traveling into Owen Sound to plan ahead and anticipate traffic delays.

The Owen Sound Police are gearing up for increased traffic volume this weekend. Inspector Vince Wurfel states, “There are a number of events planned in Owen Sound and area this weekend, expected to draw large crowds. Our officers will be working to ensure everyone has a safe and enjoyable time. However, we expect to see unprecedented traffic volumes in the city throughout the weekend”.

The Big Music Fest event and West Hill High School reunion, combined with the closure of 2nd Avenue East for the Hottest Yard Sale on Saturday, is expected to create traffic delays, throughout the city.

Parking availability is also expected to be a challenge.

The Owen Sound Police are encouraging area residents and visitors to participate and enjoy themselves but are advising those who must travel by vehicle, to plan ahead and expect traffic delays and parking challenges.

Police and city by-law staff will be strictly enforcing parking by-laws. Vehicles parked illegally which are obstructing traffic flow or access to parking lots and driveways, can expect to be ticketed and towed.

The no parking by-law along the Eddie Sargent Parkway will be strictly monitored and enforced. Offending vehicles will be ticketed and towed.
