NewsBig Music FestJuly 4, 2010 Approximately 10,000 people enjoyed the nice weather and the music at Kelso Beach during the Big Music Fest. Owen Sound Police Service Inspector Stephen MacKinnon stated, “Inside the event, Officers from the Owen Sound Police Service and local detachments of the Ontario Provincial Police arrested and detained seventeen people. Several other people were issued Provincial Offences Notices on site for failing to leave the premises when directed and were escorted off the property.” “Fifteen of those detained were charged with being intoxicated in a public place. Of these people, one person was in such a state that he had to be taken by ambulance from the police station to the hospital.” A 22-year-old Owen Sound male was arrested for being intoxicated in a public place as well as charged with one criminal offence of Assaulting a Police Officer to Resist Arrest. A 23-year-old Owen Sound male was arrested by plain clothes officers from the Owen Sound Police Drug Unit for selling marihuana. He was charged with one count each of Trafficking Marihuana; Possession of Ecstasy for the Purpose of Trafficking; Possession of Proceeds of Crime; and Breach of Probation. Both males were later released from custody with a court date in August. Officers from the joint traffic enforcement initiative, which includes Owen Sound Police, Saugeen Shores Police, West Grey Police, Hanover Police, and O.P.P from Grey County and South Bruce, stopped approximately 2,000 motor vehicles in different areas of the city looking for impaired drivers. Three drivers were given roadside tests and although none blew over the legal limit one driver had his licence suspended because he had a G2 licence but had consumed alcohol. Approximately 15 warnings were given to drivers for various Highway Traffic Act violations like having head lights out or not wearing their seatbelts. One male who was walking in the area with an open bottle of beer was given a ticket. |
