Police Seek Public’s Assistance Identifying Boat Thieves

July 27, 2010

The complainant was awoken from his sleep when his boat was struck by a larger vessel. He observed a male and female, both in their 20’s, fleeing from the larger vessel after letting it go adrift.

The complainant and a city police officer managed to board the drifting craft, disable the motor, and with the help of a favourable breeze and a rope thrown to an officer on shore, were able to guide the stolen vessel, valued at over $100,000.00, into a nearby slip.

The amount of damage to stolen craft is currently undetermined, however, the sailboat did receive obvious damage to the front bow-spread and the rear rudder.

Anyone with information regarding this crime is encouraged to contact Crime Stoppers or the investigating officer, Cst. Robson, at 519-376-1234 ext. 152.
