DARE Program
Is in full swing for the school year 2008/09.
- Assisting all grade 6's students in their attempt to resist the pressure of drugs.
- A major objective of DARE is to develop and reinforce a strong sense of self-worth
so that when a student is called upon to make important, maybe life changing decisions
such as using drugs, they can act in their best interest rather than to serve
the interests of others.
- The D.A.R.E. program was introduced the Owen Sound area in the 2000-2001 school
year. The pilot school for the D.A.R.E. program was Alexandra Elementary School
and after rave reviews from the school administrators, teachers and particularly
the students, the Owen Sound Police Services decided to continue with the D.A.R.E
program. For the past 5 years, every elementary school in Owen Sound has received
this excellent and unique program. To date, there have been over 2,000 grade 6,
Owen Sound students graduate from D.A.R.E.
