Over the weekend Owen Sound Police received numerous complaints from the public regarding the operation of an ATV on park land located in the north east area of the city. Callers reported observing a white 3 wheel ATV pulling a wagon with children inside and that none of the children were wearing helmets. Callers were also concerned that the ATV was being operated on property with signage prohibiting the use of motorized vehicles.
On Sunday afternoon police located the vehicle being operated by the owner in the area of Notre Dame School. At the time the vehicle was stopped, the owner was not wearing a helmet and his 12 year old passenger was wearing an improper helmet. Located close by was a small trailer and several other children. The vehicle was found to be unplated and uninsured.
The 16 year old owner of the vehicle has been charged with numerous offences under the Off-Road Vehicles Act.
