On June 22^nd, 2024 at approximately 10:15 p.m., an Owen Sound man was attacked with a knife in the 300 block of 8^th Street East.  The Owen Sound Police Service received a call for service approximately two hours after the attack when the victim was located suffering from multiple lacerations to his body. The victim was transported to Brightshores Health System, Owen Sound where he was treated for his injuries and released a short time later.

The investigation revealed that the attacker was, 36-year-old, Michael VANWYCK of Owen Sound.  VANWYCK was arrested by police on June 25th, 2024 and has remained in custody since.

VANWYCK has been charged with the following offences:

Aggravated Assault s.268 CC

Assault with a Weapon s.267(a) CC

Possess a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose s.88 CC

Fail to Comply Probation s.733.1(1) CC (2 Counts)

Police would like to thank the public for their assistance in this investigation. It has been determined that the victim and the accused are known to one another, and the incident is related to a previous dispute.
