Call From Concerned Citizen Leads To Impaired Arrest
In the early hours of December 20, 2025, the Owen Sound Police Service responded to a report of a suspected impaired driver.
Officers quickly located the vehicle traveling through a residential neighborhood in Owen Sound’s downtown core. A traffic stop was conducted, and it was determined that the driver had consumed an unknown amount of alcohol. A roadside breath test confirmed the driver was over the legal limit.
The individual was taken for further testing by a qualified breath technician and as a result, an 18-year-old Owen Sound man was charged under the Criminal Code with impaired operation of a motor vehicle and operating a motor vehicle with a blood alcohol concentration exceeding 80 mg per 100 ml.
Due to the age and licence status of the driver, he also faces two Highway Traffic Act charges: novice driver above zero blood alcohol concentration and young driver above zero blood alcohol concentration.
The accused was released with a court date scheduled for January 2026, his driver’s licence was suspended for 90 days, and the vehicle he was operating was impounded for seven days.
The Owen Sound Police Service encourages anyone who suspects impaired driving to call 9-1-1 immediately.
