Early Morning Collision Results in Impaired Driving Charges

At approximately 2:05 a.m. on October 4, 2026, members of the Owen Sound Police Service, Owen Sound Fire and Emergency Services, and Grey County Paramedic Services responded to a motor vehicle collision in the 2900 block of 3rd Avenue West in the City of Owen Sound.

The investigation determined that the vehicle had left the roadway, travelled across a grassy shoulder, and plunged approximately 20 feet down an embankment before coming to rest along the shoreline of Georgian Bay.

Prior to the arrival of emergency services, two of the vehicle's three occupants fled the scene. Both individuals were quickly located by responding officers.

As a result of the investigation, a 15-year-old youth was arrested and charged with:

  • Operation While Impaired (Alcohol and Drugs)
  • Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration
  • Dangerous Operation
  • Taking a Motor Vehicle Without Consent
  • Drive Motor Vehicle – No Licence

In accordance with the Youth Criminal Justice Act, the identity of the accused cannot be released. The youth was subsequently released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in November 2026.

Two of the three occupants were assessed and treated at the scene by Grey County Paramedic Services. The third occupant was transported to Brightshores Health System with non-life-threatening injuries.

The Owen Sound Police Service reminds the public that impaired driving remains one of the leading causes of preventable collisions, injuries, and deaths on Ontario roads. Alcohol and drugs can significantly impair judgment, reaction time, and driving ability. Motorists are urged to plan ahead, arrange for a designated driver, use public transportation, or call a taxi or rideshare service if they have been consuming alcohol or drugs.
