Early Morning Traffic Stop Leads To Impaired Driving Charges
At approximately 6:15 a.m. on October 1, 2026, an officer with the Owen Sound Police Service was conducting patrols when a vehicle was observed having difficulty maintaining its lane.
A traffic stop was initiated, and the ensuing investigation resulted in the driver providing a failing sample on an Approved Screening Device (ASD). The driver was subsequently arrested for impaired driving and transported to the Owen Sound Police Service for further testing.
Breath tests conducted by a qualified breath technician revealed the driver had a blood alcohol concentration exceeding one and a half times the legal limit.
As a result of the investigation, a 61-year-old Owen Sound resident has been charged with:
- Operation While Impaired (Alcohol and Drugs)
- Operation While Impaired - Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 Plus)
The driver's vehicle was impounded for seven days, and their driver's licence was suspended for 90 days.
The driver was later released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in November 2026.
The Owen Sound Police Service reminds motorists that impaired driving remains a significant threat to public safety. If you plan to consume alcohol or drugs, arrange for a safe ride home and never get behind the wheel while impaired.
