Eight Arrested During Continued Downtown Drug Enforcement Initiative
The Owen Sound Police Service has completed a follow-up enforcement initiative aimed at addressing the ongoing public consumption of illicit drugs within the downtown core.
On May 25 and 26, 2026, members of the Criminal Investigations Branch, Drug Enforcement Unit and the C.O.R.E. Unit carried out a coordinated operation utilizing both uniform and plainclothes officers. The initiative targeted individuals observed openly using illicit substances in areas accessible and visible to the public.
As a result of the two-day initiative, eight individuals were arrested for public drug consumption offences. Investigators also seized quantities of suspected fentanyl and crystal methamphetamine.
The Owen Sound Police Service continues to remind the public that the use of illicit substances in public places remains prohibited under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act and can negatively impact community safety, businesses, and residents.
Police recognize that addiction and substance use issues are complex and continue to work alongside community agencies and health partners to encourage individuals to seek available supports. Anyone requiring assistance related to substance use or mental health concerns is encouraged to contact 211, a free and confidential resource that provides access to local health and social services.
The Owen Sound Police Service remains committed to balancing proactive enforcement with compassion and support for individuals struggling with addiction, while continuing efforts to maintain a safe and welcoming downtown environment.
