Just before midnight on April 21st, 2026, the Owen Sound Police Service responded to a disturbance on a downtown street involving several individuals. 

An on duty security guard who was in the area checking a nearby building, observed the incident and attempted to intervene and mediate the situation.  During this intervention,  the security guard was assaulted, allegedly being headbutted and repeatedly punched.  Other individuals at the scene assisted in pulling the accused away from the victim, and Police were called. 

Owen Sound Police are aware of video footage of the incident that has circulated widely on social media.  The incident has been investigated, and officers continue to gather and review all available evidence.   

As a result of the investigation, a 35 year old Owen Sound man has been arrested and charged with assault.  Both the accused and the victim sustained minor injuries, were treated medically, and released.  The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice on July 16, 2026.
