MEDIA RELEASE
Motor Vehicle Collision Involving Child
At approximately 3:25 pm on May 19th 2026, the Owen Sound Police Service responded to reports of a motor vehicle colliding with a child pedestrian in the area of 14th Street West and Alpha Street. Police units were on scene within two minutes of receiving the call and attended to the injured child until EMS arrived on scene. The area was blocked to traffic while officers trained in traffic reconstruction and forensic identification documented the scene and the vehicle. The four-year-old child was taken to hospital with unknown injuries that are not thought to be life threatening at this time. The investigation into the circumstances of the collision are still ongoing, but all roadways have been re-opened.
Officers would like to take this opportunity to remind all drivers to be extra vigilant with the increase in foot traffic that comes with warmer weather, especially in the times just before and after school. Pedestrians should also stay aware of their surroundings at all times and parents are encouraged to make sure their kids know how to stay safe when around busy streets.
Anyone who may have witnessed this incident can provide information to the investigating officer, PC Neumann, at 204@owensoundpolice.com.
