Nine Arrested in Downtown Drug Enforcement Operation

The Owen Sound Police Service has concluded a targeted enforcement initiative focused on addressing the open use of illicit drugs in the downtown core.

Between March 25, 2026, and March 26, 2026, members of the Criminal Investigations Branch and the CORE Unit conducted a coordinated operation involving both plainclothes and uniform officers. The initiative focused on individuals openly consuming illicit substances in public spaces where such activity was visible to the community.

During the two-day operation, officers arrested nine individuals who were observed consuming illicit drugs in public. Officers also seized several grams of suspected crystal methamphetamine and fentanyl.

The Owen Sound Police Service would like to remind the public that the consumption of illicit drugs remains an offence under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act, particularly when occurring in public spaces where it impacts community safety and well-being.

The Owen Sound Police Service recognizes that substance use is a complex issue and remains committed to working alongside community partners to support individuals seeking help. Individuals seeking support for substance use or mental health concerns are encouraged to contact 211, a free and confidential service that can connect people to a wide range of local health and social supports.

The Owen Sound Police Service remains committed to maintaining public safety while supporting individuals in accessing appropriate health and social services.
