Ongoing Investigation Leads to Arrest, Drug Seizure, and Criminal Charges

On April 13, 2025, at approximately 4:00 p.m., members of the Owen Sound Police Service responded to a report of a disturbance at a residence on the city’s west side. Prior to police arrival, a male suspect fled the residence in a vehicle.

As part of the ensuing investigation, officers attempted to stop the suspect’s vehicle on multiple occasions. In the interest of public safety, these pursuits were discontinued. With assistance from the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Air Support and K9 Unit, the suspect was safely taken into custody the following morning just east of Owen Sound.

As the investigation progressed, members of the Owen Sound Police Service Criminal Investigations Branch sought and obtained a search warrant for the involved residence. The warrant was executed without incident, resulting in the seizure of a quantity of illicit drugs. 

As a result of the investigation, police seized a significant quantity of controlled substances and Canadian currency, including:

  • Fentanyl equivalent to approximately 860 individual doses
  • Approximately 800 grams of cocaine
  • Over $30,000 in Canadian currency

The estimated street value of the fentanyl is approximately $17,000, and the cocaine is valued at approximately $80,000.

As a result of the investigation, Miguel MOCTEZUMA VERA a 23-year-old male of no fixed address has been arrested and formally charged with the following offences:

  • Assault with a Weapon
  • Uttering Threats to Cause Death
  • Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking – Fentanyl
  • Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking – Cocaine
  • Flight from Police (Two Counts)
  • Mischief Under $5,000
  • Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle (Two Counts)
  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance – Section 4(1), CDSA
  • Fail to Comply with Probation – Section 733.1(1), Criminal Code
