Fatal Pedestrian Collision – Owen Sound

The Owen Sound Police Service is investigating a fatal motor vehicle collision that occurred on Tuesday, February 17, 2026.

At approximately 8:00 p.m., police responded to a report of a serious collision involving a pickup truck and a pedestrian at the intersection of 10th Street East and 16th Avenue East in Owen Sound.

The investigation has determined that a pickup truck was travelling eastbound on 10th Street East and was in the process of turning northbound onto 16th Avenue East when it struck a pedestrian who was crossing the roadway. The female pedestrian was transported to a London-area trauma centre, where she later succumbed to her injuries.

The driver of the pickup truck remained at the scene and cooperated fully with police investigators.

Members of the Owen Sound Police Service Collision Investigation Unit and Forensic Services Branch, in conjunction with the Ontario Provincial Police Collision Reconstruction Unit, attended the scene. The investigation remains ongoing.

As with all fatal collisions, investigators are examining all potential contributing factors, including vehicle movement, pedestrian movement, and roadway conditions.

The intersection of 10th Street East and 16th Avenue East was closed for several hours while investigators examined the scene and reopened at approximately 11:30 a.m. Wednesday morning. Witnesses remained on scene and have been spoken to by investigators. Police continue to request that anyone with additional information, including cell phone, dash camera, or surveillance footage, contact police.

Out of respect for the family, the identity of the deceased will not be released.

Anyone with information related to this investigation is asked to contact Detective Sergeant Josh Gurney at 519-376-1234 ext. 1174.
