The Owen Sound Police Service has completed another targeted enforcement initiative focused on addressing the public use and trafficking of illicit drugs within the downtown core.

On September 2 and 3, 2026, members of the Criminal Investigations Branch, Drug Enforcement Unit and C.O.R.E. Unit conducted proactive enforcement throughout the downtown area, utilizing both uniform and plainclothes officers.

As a result of the two-day initiative, 11 individuals were arrested and charges were laid in relation to offences involving fentanyl and methamphetamine. Officers also seized quantities of suspected fentanyl and crystal methamphetamine during the enforcement activities.

While conducting proactive enforcement, officers encountered an unresponsive middle-aged male who appeared to be experiencing a drug-related medical emergency. Officers immediately recognized the situation and, due to their training and preparedness, quickly administered a lifesaving dose of Naloxone (Narcan).

Following the administration of Narcan, the male regained consciousness. Officers promptly requested Grey Bruce Paramedic Services to attend the scene, where the male received further medical assessment and treatment.

This incident highlights the importance of officers being prepared to respond to the serious and potentially fatal consequences of illicit drug use while conducting proactive enforcement in the community.
