MEDIA RELEASE

Owen Sound Police Conducting Proactive Traffic Enforcement in Construction Zones

The Owen Sound Police Service is reminding motorists to slow down and exercise caution when travelling through construction zones as officers continue proactive traffic enforcement efforts throughout the city.

Construction areas present unique hazards for workers who are often positioned only a short distance from moving traffic. Speeding, distracted driving, and aggressive driving behaviours significantly increase the risk of serious injury or death for both workers and motorists.

The Owen Sound Police Service will be conducting targeted enforcement in active construction zones to address speeding and other traffic-related violations. Drivers are reminded that construction zones require increased attention due to changing road conditions, reduced lane widths, the presence of heavy equipment, and workers operating in close proximity to traffic.

Motorists are encouraged to:

  • Obey all posted speed limits and temporary construction zone signage;
  • Remain alert and watch for workers, equipment, and changing traffic patterns;
  • Avoid distractions, including the use of electronic devices while driving;
  • Leave extra space between vehicles and plan additional travel time when passing through construction areas.

The Owen Sound Police Service will continue proactive enforcement initiatives to improve roadway safety and protect workers and the public. Drivers found violating traffic laws may be subject to fines and other penalties under the Highway Traffic Act.
