On May 25th, 2026, at approximately 3:15pm, the Owen Sound Police Service responded to reports of an assault with a weapon in progress, within the 900 block of 2nd Avenue East in the downtown core of Owen Sound.

Upon arrival, responding officers located the suspect, a 22-year-old man, who was being detained by witnesses at the scene.  The man was arrested by police without incident and the knife used in the offence was seized.

Police located a female victim suffering from apparent stab and slash wounds nearby.  Grey Country Emergency Medical Services attended, treated the victim and transported her to Brightshores Hospital where she was treated for serious but not life-threatening injuries.

As a result of the investigation 22-year-old, Devon Desborough of Owen Sound was charged with the following Criminal Code Offence:

·        Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose

·        Assault with a Weapon

·        Assault Causing Bodily Harm

The accused, who was previously released on bail from the courts on other serious charges, was held for a bail hearing that is scheduled to take place on May 26th, 2026.

Investigators believe this was an isolated incident, and there is no ongoing threat to public safety.
