Police Charge Impaired Driver Following Dangerous Driving Complaint

On January 22, 2026, at approximately 7:00 a.m., the Owen Sound Police Service responded to multiple simultaneous 911 calls reporting a vehicle driving dangerously and performing donuts in the middle of an intersection, nearly colliding with other motorists.

Police quickly attended the area and located the vehicle and driver a short distance away. The driver was arrested for stunt driving and exhibited signs of impairment. A Standard Field Sobriety Test was completed, during which the driver performed poorly.

With the assistance of Grey Bruce OPP, a Drug Recognition Evaluation was completed, which determined the driver to be impaired by drugs.

As a result of the investigation, the 39-year-old driver was charged with the following offences:

·         Operation while impaired - drugs

·         Dangerous operation

·         Drive motor vehicle - Perform stunt

·         Have care or control of vehicle with cannabis readily available

The driver’s licence was suspended for 90 days, and the vehicle was impounded for 14 days. The driver was released from custody to appear in court in February.

A short time after being released, the driver attended the vehicle impound facility and attempted to retrieve his vehicle. After being refused, the driver brandished a knife and threatened staff. Police attended the impound facility where he was located and arrested a second time.

The driver is now facing additional charges of assault with a weapon, uttering threats, and failing to comply with undertaking. The driver was subsequently held for bail and remanded into custody.

Police would like to thank members of the public who reported this incident. The Owen Sound Police Service continues to encourage anyone who witnesses unsafe or dangerous driving to contact police immediately.
