The Owen Sound Police Service has arrested a 24-year-old Owen Sound man following a dangerous series of events that unfolded on Sunday, July 26, 2026.

At the time of the incident, the accused was on bail and facing numerous outstanding drug and weapons-related charges and was subject to several court-ordered conditions, including an electronic GPS ankle monitor.

At approximately 4:50 p.m., police attempted to arrest the accused after locating him operating a pickup truck while allegedly breaching multiple release conditions. During the arrest, the accused resisted officers, started the vehicle, and fled the scene. In the process, a marked police cruiser was struck, and officers were nearly hit.

The accused then drove onto a sidewalk, where several pedestrians, including a young woman and a family with a child in a stroller, were forced to take evasive action to avoid being struck. No physical injuries were sustained.

As officers searched for the accused, police were notified that the electronic GPS monitoring device the accused was required to wear had been deliberately removed and discarded.

The suspect vehicle was located abandoned a short time later. With the assistance of the Ontario Provincial Police, including K9 and aviation resources, the accused was located and arrested after attempting to break and enter into an occupied residence.

As a result of the investigation, Kurtis Miller, has been charged with numerous Criminal Code and Highway Traffic Act offences. The accused has been referred to the Intensive Serious Violent Crime Bail Program due to the serious risk he poses to the members of the community.
