Switchboard Operator
The Owen Sound Police Service requires a full-time Switchboard Operator. Under the direction of their supervisor, this position will be responsible for administrative and emergency call-taking and dispatching in the computerized Communications Centre. This position involves shift work including days, nights, weekends, and holidays.

To be considered for this position, the applicant must;
· Be a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident of Canada;
· Have experience in a call taking role (preferred);
· Possess a minimum Grade 12 education or equivalent;
· Possess accurate and proficient computer and keyboarding skills and the ability to multitask;
· Be of good moral character and habits and have no criminal convictions for which a pardon has not been granted.
· Have excellent interpersonal and strong decision-making skills.
· Preference will be given to applicants with experience in emergency response, distress situations, and high-stress call centre and shift environments.
· Completion of the 911 & Emergency Service Communications program is an asset;
RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Receive all telephone calls to the administrative lines and redirect callers according to requests and/or needs.
· Ensure all information is gathered from the caller and entered into Computer Aided Dispatch software.
· Recognize a priority and/or emergency call for service and transfer it immediately to a Dispatcher for emergency response.
· Contact outside agencies for assistance as requested by Dispatchers in emergency situations.
The salary range for this position is $30.028 - $33.998/hour. Successful candidates will be subject to a comprehensive background check and Criticall Testing.
