Owen Sound Police Welcome Two New Recruits

On Wednesday April 28th during the day shift, nine people were taken into custody by the Owen Sound Police Service.  This included four men and two women that were arrested at different locations within the city, on the strength of arrest warrants.  The warrants were in relation to such charges as Theft, Operate While Prohibited, Fail to Attend for Identification, Fail to Comply with Release Order, Fail to Comply with Undertaking and Assault.  Three of the individuals made court appearances that day, two others were released with future court appearance dates and an

On Saturday April 25th, 2021 just after midnight, Owen Sound Police responded to the complaint of a disturbance in the parking lot of the Harry Lumley Bayshore Community Centre.  Police attended and located a social gathering of five people.  Based on the current stay at home order in effect within the Province, two 20-year-old men, an 18-year-old man, an 18-year-old woman and a 16-year-old male, were charged and issued an $880.00 fine under the Emergency Management and Civil Protection Act.   

MAN ARRESTED IN OWEN SOUND ON WARRANTS

Just after 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, a 33-year-old man of no fixed address was arrested in the 300 block of 8th Street East, Owen Sound on the strength of two arrest warrants.  The warrants were in relation to offences which included Obstruct Peace Officer, Theft of Motor Vehicle, Theft Under $5000.00, Escape Lawful Custody and Driving While Under Suspension.  The male will make a court appearance on April 21, 2020.

On Tuesday April 20th, 2021 just before 9:00 a.m., an Owen Sound Police officer observed a 38-year-old male attempting to steal a parked motor vehicle from the 400 block of 8th Street East, Owen Sound.  As a result of the investigation, the Port McNicoll resident was charged with Attempt Theft of Motor Vehicle, Failing to Comply with his Release Order and four counts of Failing to Comply with his Probation Orders.  The man made an appearance in court and has since been remanded into custody.  The male was also charged with failing to comply with an order made during

COVID Enforcement Update

The Owen Sound Police Service recognizes the challenges being faced in the Province by increasing infection rates and hospitalization numbers related to Covid19. While we are still awaiting clarification from the Province regarding the new legislation, we will continue to engage with citizens, explain, educate and enforce as required.  The number of citizen generated complaints continue to increase. Our officers will not be engaging in random person or vehicle stops.

On Wednesday April 14th, 2021 just before 9:00 p.m., Owen Sound Police responded to the complaint of a possible party being held at an eastside residence.  Based on the current stay at home order in effect within the Province, police attended to investigate.  Several persons were spoken to, with a 25-year-old local man being charged and issued a $880.00 fine under the Emergency Management and Civil Protection Act.   

Couple Charged in Credit Card Fraud Investigation

On Tuesday April 6, 2021 members of the Criminal Investigations Branch of the Owen Sound Police Service arrested a couple at an eastside hotel.   The investigation revealed that the couple was responsible for numerous fraudulent credit card transactions that victimized several Owen Sound businesses as well as an online business from York Region.
