MOTOR VEHICLE COLLISION LEADS TO IMPAIRED DRIVING CHARGES

On Thursday, 28 December 2023, at approximately 4:49 p.m., members of the Owen Sound Police Service, Owen Sound Fire and Grey County Paramedics responded to the intersection of 10th Street East and 9th Avenue East for a motor vehicle collision where one of the involved vehicles had fled the scene.

With the assistance of witnesses and Grey County Paramedics, police were able to locate the suspect vehicle a short distance away. Police determined the female driver was impaired by alcohol and she was subsequently arrested without incident.

The driver was transported to the Owen Sound Police station where she provided samples of her breath which registered nearly 3 times the legal limit to drive. 

It was also determined that the female was a prohibited driver after being convicted of impaired driving earlier in 2023.  The female was also bound by a probation order with a condition that she not occupy the driver seat of a motor vehicle with a blood alcohol level above zero.

As a result of the investigation, a 38-year-old woman of Owen Sound has been charged with several criminal code offences. The accused was later released and is scheduled to appear in court on 11 January 2023.
