History of OSPS

The town of Owen Sound came into existence on January 1, 1857. The first Chief Constable was John Mills who had 6 Constables to assist him in addressing issues involving dogs running wild, liquor flowing freely, garbage and how to control the entertainers passing through town. In 1858 a Special Constable was appointed with the task of looking after pigs running at large. Since those humble and challenging beginnings, the Owen Sound Police Service has evolved into today's highly trained, community based police service.
